About Us

Weller Book Works is the Grand Dame of Salt Lake bookstores.

Founded by Gus Weller in 1929, our store has been in various locations and known by different names, but with history in our walls and on our shelves we have stepped into a bright future at historic Trolley Square.

On our two floors you will find new, used, and rare books in a space built to surprise and delight you.

What to do when you're here:

- Visit the Rare Book Room upstairs. Our treasures come and go but there is always something wonderful to look at.

- Stop by the New West section on the main floor. Contemporary writing about our region, culture, and an unblinking look at Western history is important to us as booksellers. Here you'll find the work of writers such as Amy Irvine, Edward Abbey, Ellen Meloy, and Terry Tempest Williams.

- Linger at our Staff Picks. The booksellers here are passionate, avid readers with a variety of tastes and opinions. Each book they've placed on their shelves is a worthy read; you can't go wrong. Go ahead and take the ones you're interested in from the shelves. We'll stock more.

- Browse our fiction selections, from literary to genre, and follow a natural path through book 'canyons' and 'arroyos' to the non-fiction sections of our store. We have more history, science, archaeology, and art books than the stars can number.

You can find Weller Book Works just off the 600 South entrance to Trolley Square. We have entrances on both levels of Trolley Square. Trolley Square and Weller Book Works are wheelchair accessible, but if you need help with accomodations, please let us know. We are a short walk from the Trolley Trax stop, and there is free parking in the lot across from us on 600 South.

Weller Book Works is an independent bookstore. That means we are family-owned and operated, not a franchise of a large corporation. Every book you buy from us keeps our workers paid, our families fed, and the lights on for others in the community who need a place to interact with books in the wild. We value your patronage! Help us win the fight against corporate monopolies and continue to #ShopLocal, #ShopIndie.
